The History
In 1836, the population officially became known as Brownsburg Indiana with the opening of a United States Post Office. From its very beginning, this little town has been built with the vision of promoting a family environment where individuals and businesses could prosper. It hasn’t lost sight of that vision and is continuing to flourish.
Brownsburg Schools
Just a few miles outside of Indianapolis in neighboring Hendricks County, Brownsburg is home to the Brownsburg Community School Corporation. The school system services children in grades kindergarten through twelve and has been awarded the distinction of a “Four Star” school by the Indiana Department of Education. The student body is distributed through six elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. Brownsburg High School has implemented the Senior Academy with the intent of preparing its seniors for life after high school and a focus on preparing them for college and the workforce. In addition, Brownsburg schools work in conjunction with Avon schools to provide Harris Academy for junior and senior students that will benefit from a small, mastery-based learning environment.
Business and Fun
A wonderful place to call home, Brownsburg is not only home for families but for a number of businesses and attractions. The city has several retail and restaurant establishments, both national chains and locally owned. Each year the community hosts several events, including a Christmas parade and haunted hayrides. Most notably, there is a huge craft show every July, which draws an annual attendance of almost 6,000 people. One of the truly unusual draws to the community is the O’Reilly Raceway Park. The racing facility hosts more than 100 different events each year. The town of Brownsburg is the location of many race teams and race related businesses.
