The neighborhood is built around St. Therese, the Little Flower, Catholic Church and School founded in 1925. St. Therese was born Therese Martin on January 2, 1873, in Alencon, France. When she was 15, she entered a Carmelite convent, taking the religious name Sister Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. She loved the seasons and saw herself as the “little flower of Jesus,” a title which honors her to this day.
Bungalows can be traced back to India and were used as simple vacation homes. Common characteristics of bungalow-style homes include open floor plans, low-pitched roofs and large front porches. The Arts and Crafts Movement, which began in the late 1880s and continued into the 1900s, experimented with the use of natural materials, hand craftsmanship and simplistic design. Architecturally, this translated into the Arts and Crafts-style bungalow popularized by architects like the Greene Brothers. The Arts and Crafts Movement was a backlash against the Industrial Age and propelled many Americans to desire their own homes and gardens. Bungalows evolved and became more accessible to the masses, differing perhaps in levels of fine detail and workmanship, but remaining distinctive for their openness, affordability and charm.
Many homes for sale in Little Flower neighborhood feature beautiful details such as hardwood floors, original woodwork and ornate fireplaces. Single and two-car garages and single-story floor plans make bungalows attractive options for first-time homebuyers or empty-nesters looking to downsize. For more than 80 years, this neighborhood has provided a safe, affordable, family-oriented community. Come find your treasure in Little Flower.
