Buying an Indianapolis Area Home

Moving to Indianapolis? Schools Matter

School Districts are often a determining factor when deciding where to begin your search for a home. Whether you have children, plan to have children, or are concerned about the resale value of your home, information about schools in the area is well worth investigating.

If you have children, finding a school which provides an outlet for your child's interest can help make the decision about where you will begin your search for a home. School districts can also determine the taxes on your new home, and therefore can affect the price point of the neighborhood you choose.

Elementary and Secondary Schools

There are 11 school districts (corporations) in Marion County. Indianapolis Public Schools, the state's largest school system, serves students within the old city boundaries. The remaining districts of Beech Grove, Decatur, Franklin, Lawrence, Perry, Pike, Speedway, Warren, Washington and Wayne serve the rest of the county. For a map of school district boundaries, search here.

Indianapolis also has an extensive list of Charter Schools and Private Schools.

For information about all schools in the Greater Indianapolis area, compare schools within a district or search school scores and feedback, get the full details from the Indiana Department of Education. These are the most up to date stats for all Indiana public and private schools.
